Gihieh Lee (*1971) – Séoul A Homage to the Poetic World of Marcel Proust Music: Gihieh Lee Text: Ouchan Fabien Shim Séoul is a contemporary French mélodie inspired by the world of Marcel Proust. Through a poem dedicated to the Korean capital, the work evokes memory, time, and the fleeting beauty of a city where tradition and modernity meet. The sky, the Han River, the rooftops, and the countless crosses that shape the cityscape form a poetic portrait of Seoul, viewed with both intimacy and contemplation. More than a simple depiction of the city, Séoul is a homage to Proustian sensibility. Without imitating Proust, the work brings his poetic world into present-day Korea while remaining rooted in the tradition of the French mélodie, in which music serves the poem with restraint and sensitivity, shaped by refinement, subtle nuances of sound, and understated emotion. Mezzo-soprano | Seungeun Oh Korean mezzo-soprano Seungeun Oh completed her Bachelor of Music in Voice at Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul. She subsequently studied in Paris with Prof. Elsa Maurus and Prof. Jean-Philippe Courtis before moving to Germany, where she completed her studies with Prof. Yaron Windmüller at the University of Music Saar in Saarbrücken. As a soloist, she has appeared in Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s St John Passion, and Mozart’s Requiem, as well as in Così fan tutte, Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, Handel’s Semele, and Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. Since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, Seungeun Oh has sung in the second alto section of the chorus of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Piano | Jeongwon Kim Pianist and répétiteur Jeongwon Kim studied répétition and chamber music at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Rueil-Malmaison in France, as well as vocal coaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim. She has worked at institutions including Stadttheater Klagenfurt in Austria and Theater Lübeck, and is currently a solo répétiteur at Theater Magdeburg.

Richard Wagner: Tristan und Isolde (Violin and Piano, Arr. Fazıl Say) Tristan und Isolde tells the story of an impossible love — a love suspended between longing, ecstasy, and death. Originally conceived as one of Wagner’s most emotionally intense operas, the music moves constantly between desire and unresolved tension, becoming one of the defining works of late Romanticism. This arrangement by Fazıl Say transforms Wagner’s orchestral language into an intimate dialogue between violin and piano. — Violin: Jooin Kim (@violinjooinkim7912 ) Jooin Kim is a violinist currently studying in the Solomaster program at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold in the class of Prof. Mirijam Contzen. As a member of the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen, he gained extensive orchestral experience and collaborated with conductors such as Johannes Klumpp, Reinhard Göbel, and Jörg Halubek. His concert activities have brought him to renowned venues including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Berliner Philharmonie, the Philharmonie Essen, Villa Hügel, and the Konzerthaus Berlin. He previously studied at the Berlin University of the Arts with Prof. Bernhard Hartog and continues his studies with Prof. Mirijam Contzen. Alongside his orchestral work, he is also deeply engaged in solo performance. — Piano: Sun-Pil Kim Sun-Pil Kim is a pianist and collaborative pianist currently teaching at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden. He completed both his Bachelor’s degree in Piano and a Master’s degree in Instrumental Accompaniment at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden. He was awarded the 3rd Prize at the International Piano Competition “Dmitri Kabalevsky” in Dresden and won the 1st Prize at the Ensemble Competition of the Hochschule für Musik Dresden. His chamber music activities have brought him to venues including the Staatstheater Braunschweig and Carnegie Hall. The publisher Universal Edition also introduces the piece as a solo cello work composed in 1926 and dedicated to Francesco von Mendelssohn. Francesco von Mendelssohn was a Berlin-born cellist and a member of the Mendelssohn family. According to the Mendelssohn Society, he lived from 1901 to 1972 and was a member of the Klingler String Quartet from 1926 to 1929. Her repertoire includes works by Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Verdi, Shostakovich, and Beethoven. She has also appeared as a soloist and chamber musician and participated in masterclasses with Clive Greensmith, Philippe Muller, Troels Svane, and Konstantin Heidrich. Pianist Youngjun Lee graduated from Seoul Arts High School and studied piano at Yonsei University in Seoul.
